The Symbol: Koru

My wife and I love to travel. We love experiencing different cultures and seeing how people work, play, and love. One of our first big trips together was our honeymoon to New Zealand. This nation is a rich heritage of South Pacific culture. Maori, the native people, are incredibly strong, kind, resilient, and beautiful in their ways of living and expressing themselves. One of their often used symbols, a Koru, is that of a fern bud as it opens bringing new life and purity to the world. It also represents peace, tranquility and spirituality along with a strong sense of regrowth or new beginnings. The Koru is also often associated with nurturing so when interlocked with others is frequently used to represent the strength and purity of a healthy loving relationship. As you move along the journey of counseling, I hope this symbol can remind you of the new beginning and life that is unfurling!
